DILLI HAAT
Welcome to the colorful corner of Delhi- Dilli Haat
Dilli Haat is an open-air market that is run by Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation. Located in South Delhi, this place will rejuvenate you with its vibrant vibes. The cultural affinity of the handicrafts and food items here is what makes it a unique and must-go place when in Delhi. Stalls with thatched roofs, colorful handicrafts, cuisines of various Indian states, and embellishments will transcend you to another realm.
What to do
1. Get ready to braid up!
Just near the entrance, you will find some women selling earrings, rings, and colorful strands. Their proficient hands effortlessly braid up the hair into funky styles. So, for girls who want to feel pampered and experience some craziness, this is a perfect start!
2. Perfect place for shopping
Dilli Haat is a place to satiate your love for handicrafts, minuscule decorative items, and home décor items. With a few bargaining skills and jogging sneakers, you’re all set for a treasure hunt at Dilli Haat.
Wooden artifacts: Out of all the stalls, wooden items have a dominant presence in the stalls of Dilli Haat. Bamboo and natural cane bags, decorative wall hangings, plant holders, and crafts items will allure you to add some of these items to your cart. In addition to this, cute wooden water feeders were something that piqued my interest. Adorning some parts of your home with such items will attach a calm and composed vibe to your favorite corner.
Home Décor: Handcrafted runners, mats, and puffs are definitely the highlight of Dilli Haat. Intricate and beguiling designs of these things justify their prices. However, you may have a look at all things during your first visit and then, later on, decide according to your budget.
Footwear: Ethnic Jaipuri jutis and sandals with beautiful silver payals are something unique that you should buy if you are not a native. Available in a plethora of designs and sizes, don’t forget to add this to your souvenirs.
Other items: From cotton Kurtis to other decorative items such as lamps, handcrafted showpieces, Madhubani paintings, etc, Dilli Haat is a smorgasbord to satiate your cultural buds.
3. Enjoy the best food
After treading for so long, food is what you need to propel you. One of the prominent parts of any culture is its food, and Dilli Haat doesn’t disappoint you here. It has got food stalls of various states of India to slake your hunger. From Manipur’s Kangsoi to your own Delhi’s Chhole Bhatoore, choose your luscious cuisine.
Dos and Don’ts
- Negotiable prices: Many of you might feel some items are too costly. However, prices are negotiable and you just need to carry that confidence to bargain!
- Carry a water bottle: They might not allow any food items inside. Continuous dawdling from stall to stall will suck all your energy so carry a water bottle at any cost to avoid spending pennies on it.
- Plan a whole day: Just visiting Dilli Haat can be a waste of time. Plan your itinerary for the day and visit nearby places like Sarojini Nagar, Hauz Khaas, Chandni Chowk, etc.
