India is a country of multiplicity. Her multiplicity encapsulates wholesome warmth. The warmth of millions of smiles; the warmth of a cohesive bond between cultures, languages, regions, and socioeconomic classes; the warmth of uniqueness in each face. Her festivals catapult this warmth to another realm. There’s enriched tranquillity in the commotion of streets. The pacification while watching the entire city drenched in a festive mood is why you wait for them. There’s a peculiarity about Indian streets, you feel “home”. Indian streets don’t need any festival to be enthralled. Ecstasy flows through their veins.

Have you ever felt the commotion of Diwali? You’ve watched it, but I asked have you felt it? Have you felt the inquisitiveness of a saree seller while he showcases his impeccable selling skills? His compliments melt you like jaggery. Just when you’re double-minded about your choice, his highly excited nudge inclines your footsteps towards the cash counter. As soon as you take a deep breath, your stance gets budged by some over-excited women who forgot to align their footsteps with their line of sight, after all the neighborhood bangle shop allured them to do so.

You haven’t gotten over this bolt from the blue, and a very peculiar voice catches your attention. There you find an adolescent with a nascent smile making oblique allusions asking you to visit his shop that is adorned with a plethora of Diwali items.

Just when your head starts thumping due to exhaustion, you find yourself drooling over the looming odor of “kadak adrak chai”. “Chacha do chai Karna”, is your next reflex. Chacha’s protruding veins adduce his proficiency in the profession.

The sky is graced with bandhanwars, lanterns, and twinkling lights. Stalls are a smorgasbord of delicacies. The mehndi-walas have arranged their cones in a discipline, the laugh of children propel the whole vibe. Coz Diwali it is.

But somewhere a young girl in her teens is being chided by the owner for not being able to retain customers. On the verge of breaking down, she gets back to work. One customer just wished her a “Happy” Diwali.

The cold, gargantuan malls don’t suffice us even with the best of brands. Trot around to visit those Indian street markets where an adolescent boy and a teen girl are waiting eagerly for your presence.
